Hey guys, I just bought an Inox (stainless) Beretta 92FS. I was inspired to buy it by this model below, no longer made by Beretta. It is an Inox finish but the flat section of the slide is bright polished, and this is what I want to do to mine:

Would this be something a layperson like me could do, i.e. could I polish my slide to look like this with some sort of Dremel with a buffer attachment or something? And if so, how? If not I may just have the whole gun finished with bright nickel, but every refinisher I've asked said it would take many months and hundreds of dollars to complete.

Try 400 grit or 600 grit sand paper, thats how they polish slides for bluing. You may be there up to an hour sanding to get it how you want it. Also I dont know if you'll mess up or wear down the lettering on your berretta; the slides I've seen done were blank.

Start with some fine wet dry paper and oil. When to get it smooth, switch to Flitz and a rag.

If you use a wheel (bench or Dremel) you will probably run over the flat side and start to polish the matte areas.

Honestly, for the amount of work that you'd put into it, I'd just have someone do it for you. It wouldn't take more than about 10 minutes for a shop that specializes in chrome/nickle plating to polish it for you.
