phosphating XD slide problem , Help Please

I have done a few parts and AR barrels and they turn out beautiful , I got a XD that had surface rust all over the slide . I figured I would bead blast it , degunk it and give it a new face, when I pull it out of the phosphate and rinse it its looks beautiful as soon as I hit it with some oil it wipes off back to bare metal ? Im stumped , I have tried this 3 times with this slide with the same results ,
Too much nickel in the steel ? I do not believe its stainless or it would have not rusted like it did .
Im very very confused and really do not want to paint it but Im believing it may be my only choice. :(

It is not stainless , It is a forged steel which should not be a problem and I should not have this going on . I believe it was previously melonited and it has been bead blasted off. should this maybe have not gottem through all the melonite coating ? its all the way to the steel or appears to be anyway . Maybe I will put some fine sand in the cabinet and give that a go as its a bit more abrasive to make sure its all off .
Heres the link to the XD9SC showing the slide is forged steel

After much of my afternoon in depth research at work today melonite coating is not actually the coating on the outside, melonite is a thermo chemical treatment that actually penetrates the metal and makes the steel harder , it is a black oxide coating that they put over the top that makes it black and it does not even have have just decent rust resistant properties < Well damn thats obvious > now once its been melonite treated its pretty much permanently embedded in the metal . Springfield has since changed this process because of its sh!tty rest preventative properties . So my beater gun is getting the best treatment she deserves , Flat black ACE hardware premium spray bomb @ $8 a can , .
Thanks alot Springfield , you suck !!!!!
However I did call a guy that does duracoat today but he isnt 100% sure it will adhere well to the bare melonited metal and thinks it may not be very long lasting either under the circumstances . Oh well Ace Hareware here I come and if she gets beat up I will give her another coat of flat love . :D

Have your slide plated with nickel or industrial hard chrome.

I love the flat nickel finish that Bersa puts on their Thunder 380's, but i don't like the nickel finish on my Bersa Thunder9ucPro or my CZ75b duotone nearly as much, too goldish.

Hard chrome might look darned cool on a XD slide.

Thought about that but the guy said the same thing as with the duracoat on the raw melonited surface
. Like I said its a beater training gun so Im giving her the ideal treatment for her . Im not a chrome blingy kinda person but that would be the a great looking gun

I went with the cheap route I gave her the $7 spray bomb Ace Hardware premium treatment , 3 coats with black satin and then baked her for 30 min at 285 degrees , the finish is pretty hard , I had a accidental punch hit last night and it did no damage . Over all it looks good enough for me :D
