Default parkerizing..

I've got a sentimental piece - a Ka-bar USMC fighting knife. It's seen better days. The parkerized finish is pretty well worn off and it looks like dog dookie. Can I refinish the blade? Can it be done affordably? Can I do it myself?

Should I just break out some bluing, or a can of matte krylon? It looks cool in my range bag, but could look better! Advise?

Parkerizing will require that the leather be removed.
If you use a paint that requires heating to cure, the leather will have to be removed.

To properly prepare the knife for any refinishing, the leather will have to be removed.

you might want to remove the leather before you do this. you will have to back the knife at no less than 275dg and no more than 400dg when you start getting over 400 dg you will stat to change the metal property's and you will make it brittle and loss hardness. powder coating requires i think 325 backing for 45 min in a conventional kitchen oven. go to lowes get a piece of flat bar steel for 15 dollars 2-1/16-15 and get some powder paint and experiment before you do your knife.
