Non-glare wood fininsh

I am in need of finishing the stock on my remington shotgun.
It is used for waterfowl and I would prefer a non-glare fininsh. What would be recommended. I was thinking a stock refinishing kit from berchwood casey.

I have often used Tru-oil stock finish. 2 to 4 coats gives a shiny finish. Then rub with bronze wool for a very nice dull look. In your area (like mine) you can put 2 or 3 coats of Truoil on in one day(it drys fast). Rub on with your hand. Bronze wool is available in some hardware stores, I've had the best luck with Ace hardware.

Well, there's always matte polyurethane or spar varnish. Both are very tough, basically waterproof & not too hard to work with.
I thin poly slightly with thinner or mineral spirits & wipe it on with a lint-free cloth. Approximately 3:1 or 4:1 poly/thinner. No brush marks & quick drying. It will require an extra coat or two for the same thickness as unthinned though. Afterwards buff with a fine Scothbrite pad or similar for an even, matte finish.
A small can is fairly cheap. You could experiment on a scrap of hardwood & see what you think. ;)

i refinished the stock on my shotgun a few months ago. first lightly sanded down with very fine sandpaper then sanded with a 3M red scotchbrite. lightly stained, three coats and allowed to dry for two days. then buffed out with Johnson's paste wax and very fine steelwool.:D
