I recently acquired my grandpa's old JC Higgins 12ga shotgun. It is really hard to read on the barrel but I believe it says Model 583.10. It holds three shells and is bolt action, any idea on the model?
Anyways, on to the pics. I plan on bluing it my self, re-staining the stock myself, and taking it to a gun smith to do the re-assembly.

i have my fathers 583.20 bolt action. Was probably made by H&R. I shot my first deer with it 20 years ago. was made in late 40s /early 50s. not worth much. dear old dad pulled the plug out of it and it holds 7 shells now. Punkin balls or sabots are best. It shoots straight. Lots of sentimental value. long barrel / easy to aim. Liked it so much I bought a mossberg 695 Bolt action to use for venison. the j.c higgins is old and i really dont use itany more but it works!
