I started to refinish my wood stock on my mosin, so I dis assembled everything, and sanded it down pretty well. I left some finish on the back of the stock thinkin it would give it a cool effect with the stain/polyurthane mix I'm using called varathane. Quickly discovered I was wrong and not what I was going for. So I started to wet sand it with 440 grit sand paper and re apply and did this process quite a few times. I finally have the finish to LOOK like I want it, but even after a day of drying it still has a tacky feel. So finally my question, were do I go from here? A nice coat of polyurthane or just some clear coat spray paint? I don't care what the end finish feels like as long as its not the sticky/tackyness it is now.

Tru-oil works well and is easy to apply. A few thin coats works best.

Looks pretty good. Did you strip the blueing too?

Yea on the magwell, outside triggerguard, barrel bands an hooks, and the metal butt plate. Still has a small amount on it showing that kind of worn look. Sanded it with fine sand paper more than stripped it.I'm really happy with it Ill post detailed pics tomarrow.
