DuraBake? Any good?

I'm thinking of painting - just the receiver - of my AR. Just repainting it black.

Rather than using DuraCoat, which requires a paint sprayer, which I don't have, has anyone used DuraBake, which comes in a spray can?

You can buy a kit from DuraCoat that includes everything you need for $49.95

Manufacturer of DuraCoat Firearms Finishes

If you goes this route be sure to keep the propellant in a bowl of warm/hot water so it doesn't freeze.

Perfect, thanks Nitrox!

No problem. Here is a link to the process I used for my CZ-82. Hope it helps.

Looks like CA357 has moved his Photobucket around, so I can no longer see the photos.

I clicked the link and it brought it up ok. Check post #2 for pics of my CZ-82 and post #8 for the process. If it doesn't work, PM me and I will send it to you.

You can do a good bake on finish for a lot less than $49.95
I did this Bulgy AK74 with this hi-temp, chemical resistant, enamel engine paint.

This paint is only about $8 a can.
Before coating my gun with this paint I did a test on a piece of steel,
after curing I scrubbed it with acetone and the paint didn't budge.

Nitrox, how is that duracoat holding up it's been almost a year now?

NitroxAZ 04-06-2010 11:37 PM

Like a champ. I have more than 1000 rounds through it and looks the same.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I will tell you that I didn't go with DuraBake, but instead painted two rifles, my AR and my 10/22, with DuraCoat and they turned out great.
