Cold Blue and Clear Coat

Has anyone done this? How satisfied are you with the results?

I am contemplating doing a M1911a1 for the fun of it.

Cold blue works ok if you use the right stuff and do it right. It will never look as good as a hot blue. Not sure how you would clear coat bare metal?

Bluing is not normal clear coated you protect it with a thin coating of gun oil.

Thanks Tango,
I've been searching the internet and a few places have mentioned it. That is why I am looking into it.

If you are going to cold blue You want to use

Brownells Formula 44/40

Brownells Oxpho-blue My choice in cold blue.

If you go to rimfire central and look for mossbergman (in the mossberg section) you will find the best way to use oxpho-blue.
