Oh I know that for sure. Well maybe not, if global warming makes things colder than maybe a volcanic winter will actually warm NY! Who know's, hope we never find out?
Loc, I wasnt saying that these places arent beautiful, majestic or awesome, I could easily understand why Wyoming would be very attractive to many people. No doubt, it could be another 10,000 years before it blows its cork but it could also be next week. Ask insurance companies where most of their payouts go to for most natural disasters, its not upstate NY, our Ice storms arent really even a blip on the radar and snow usually doesnt kill.
Risk assessments of geologic stability of places and populations are both relevant when choosing a safe haven, having an active caldera in your neighborhood can be much worse than any biker gang. And how about those folks that live in Tornado alley or The Ohio River Valley? "Well, weve had this happen before and we will rebuild", just in time for it to be sunk or twisted again unfortunately. Tell that to the folks under the mud and rubble in Washington state, they were warned the hill their homes sat on was unstable, "We mitigated the possibilities as much as possible" was what they said, obviously they failed. New homes will likely replace the old before you know it.
I get my balls busted for living in NY but Screwed up Governments are something we can change (and we are changing it as we speak), weather and geology we cannot change. Luckily, the internet allows me to safely travel to more places in this world than Lewis and Clark ever could without a strip search or upcharge for carry on baggage.
