I'm not making any specific forecasts or recommendations but, disasters happen everywhere. Just because it hasn't happened in your neighborhood, during your lifetime, doesn't mean it never will.

Proverbs 27:12, TGNB: Sensible people will see trouble coming and avoid it, but an unthinking person will walk right into it and regret it later.

This is not New Age thinking!

I heard the Obama administration has proposed a grant to the newly formed Soylent Foundation, for making highly nutritious and tasty green wafers. This may be the government's long awaited solution to stopping hunger and feeding her citizens.

The PRK produces half of the produce in America. Due to the extended drought the feds are cutting back on federal water supplies. The under ground water supplies are very low so it is going to hurt production a lot. Supply and demand will force prices up so stocking up is not a bad idea.
Some years ago when my kids were still young we had a local economic collapse. From high pay to 27%+ unemployment, houses abandoned, whole shopping centers closed, repo's, very high divorce rate and a lot more. Our heavily stocked freezer, vegetable garden and stocked supplies were like an extra bank account. During that time when money was very tight we spent very little on food but ate well. The supplies allowed me to start a small business out of my basement and we survived.

Expect a nasty slow or moderate creep up on prices based on what is coming out of California.

Now, I will be adding additional garden space.

California farmers won't get federal water

When was the last time you flew over those fields? This is the second year of drought. Wells ARE drying up all around me. Farmers ARE losing their crops. Land that should be planted right now are just fields of dust. Orchards are being cut down because there is not enough water to keep them going. While the farmers do have wells, they do no good with no water down there.

We aren't starving, but there will be shortages of food coming out of CA.
