I save old phone books for that. Sure, I have stacks of TP, but phone books take up a lot less space and they should work fine.

There's just no substitute for having an actual library. And that just reminded me of something I heard someone say (maybe here?), "At one time homes had walk in pantries. Today they have walk in closets." That sort of says a lot about where our priorities are. Homes also had books at one time.
I have to admit that I love the thought of storing all my books electronically, but I stop there. You just can't beat being able to flip through a reference book when you're actually trying to find something. It's also really nice to have a book right there with you.

I've actually got my own "library", it's not as big as i'd like but it's full of different encyclopedia, reference books, and journals. I've got a kindle too but i only have novels stored on it.

And for those of us that are TRULY paranoid-
Gamma radiation shielding effect of a Kindle- negligible
Gamma radiation shielding of a book- about equal to 2 inches of concrete. (From spine to edge of pages)

>I would definitely have a book on medical diseases and conditions and how to treat them in simple ways.
>Edible and non edible plants with pictures
>Animal/hunting manual if you aren't a hunter would be handy too
>A book or two to keep you from being alone
>Basic car repair books
> Survival book of your terrain/ or where ever you think youre going to bug out to

why wouldn't the internet be there?
/sarc
I've seen the question asked on other forums... when the power goes out, how will I charge my cell phone? Last time i saw it asked, I snapped... turns out that person wanted it for the music stored on the phone
