I am late to the conversation. My bad. First of all I am staying put on my 20 acres, so an INCH bag or whatever other acronym you have been using, is not in my plan. A 24 hour bag is.
I have been adding to my radio communications capabilities. I am a licensed Ham, and I now have the equipment to communicate globally. I just need to put it all together so that it works. In the past year I have added solar power to the house (also helpful for the radio equipment) to supplement or replace the generators.
I have a couple of water tanks (I own my own well, etc..) but I am thinking I should have a few barrels of water stored just in case the tanks roll down the hill in a big earthquake. That may be next.
Something I have been doing for years that I suggest you all consider is to start a couple of beehives. I say start with at least two because that gives you some frame of reference when working them. Honey will be more valuable than gold when the SHTF. I sell my honey for $10 a pound right now and can't keep enough in stock. (I keep 15 hives currently and am building my way up to hopefully 100). It takes work, but it is a sweet reward. Also, honey is the only food known to Man that never spoils. Ever. Outlasts even twinkies!
Also, Cali is not so bad if you think about it. Much of the population is unarmed and most of that is in the big cities. They are afraid of us in the boonies. I like that. Any time somebody says "I know where I'm going when the SHTF!" I tell them they will be shot on sight if they show up at my place unless they bring a truckload of supplies with them and even then they are at risk.
