It seems to have a different meaning to a lot of different folks. In my opinion the media has butchered the meaning and concept of a citizens army because of a few bad apples. So now people are afraid to say they agree with or are a part of one as they will be attacked or watched by the government they may someday be willing to protect.
Most states have laws making it illegal to form a militia because they are afraid they might be taken over if they (the state) get out of hand. Yes as some have said they would be a loosely organized, (If allowed) well-regulated citizenís army made up of 100% volunteers, as they were the Revolutionary War Militias. I think it was Admiral Yamamoto that said he did not want to invade the main land US because there was a rifle behind every blade of grass. He was not afraid of the military as mush as he was afraid of the people in general, its citizen army who where patrolling the coastline and manning checkpoints while the active military was fighting over seas. They where not a part of the National Guard many of these people where just volunteers.

For me it is and always will be individuals who are willing to give everything to protect their family, their home, their state and the constitution above all else from enemies both foreign and domestic! We are the last lines of defense in a world gone bad!

But hay it is just my opinion!

I think most people would put militias in with the tin foil hat crowd. That said, I think if given the right suituation that view would change rather quickly. I tend to think that people in the US have a strong desire to maintain order no matter what is going on, that lawlessness would not be tolerated. In an extream suituation I think a militia that could maintain order and the rule of law would spring up all over the nation and be welcomed. But stuff would have to hit the fan in a big way first.

Just my two cents, but I keep an open mind in an uncertain world.

When I hear militia, I of course think about the KKK type of B.S.

But, what I believe the militia is supposed to be is a group of volunteers organized enough to know where to meet and what the plan is if there is ANY kind of demand for their services...IE a natural disaster or political disaster on the scale of a super volcano, 500 year blizzard, foreign invasion, or political figures trying to impose socialist take over.

I believe the main goal in forming a militia is having an group already formed in the event that it's needed. It's pretty hard to form a group of armed individuals once the SHTF and everyone is hunkering in their own basement.

I know someone (someone who is not me) who looked for a militia to join after Black Tuesday (the day more than 50% of registered voters committed treason by handing our country over to a foreign terrorist) but he gave up because all the militia's he could find were either just into selling crap to make money off of the wanna be survivalist, or were into the racist B.S. He told me he didn't dare try to form a group himself because the media/ATF has given such a bad name to militias these days.

He's not the type to go rolling around in the woods playing soldier, he just wanted a group of like minded people with a pre-planned meeting point for the moment when we all know the SHTF.

I believe he has the right idea of what a militia is supposed to be.

Agreed. THAT is the type of "militia" I'd even think about joining. But that definition almost falls more into the category of "gun club," although a tightly knit one.

When I hear Milita.

I first see a bunch of fat morons in the woods behind their locked gates in their compound.

Now after I shake that off. I see every gun owner in america stand shoulder to shoulder and 1 arms length behind each other in rank and file with a rifle or shot gun and a pistol. Standing there in formation looking good standing tall ready at a moments notice to help the military defend this great country from any threat foreign or domestic. I see a nation armed to the teeth fighting off any one stupid enough to try and invade our beloved country. I see a guy riding in on a horse with his face pained red white and blue rallying the militia giving orders to them and everyone screaming F U _______ (insert country name here) then flipping them the bird.

We would have everything from snipers to guys with AR-15 to good old boys with their trusty 30-06 hunting rifle that has been putting meat on the table for 60 some years. I see all gun owners getting along no matter if you think an AR is a hunting rifle or a killing rifle.
