I dunno.... I can get 2 gallons of gas and a lighter for under $8, and the gas station is closer to my house.

Can't argue with that.

Dude. Why pay $25 when you can pay $8?

I bought my son the ultimate knife last year for Christmas and he has started so many fires in the gravel driveway (with supervision) that he broke the fire starter the other day. One trip to Walmart and picked him one of those up to try out. He seemed to like it, so I am going to get a few more to throw in his hunting pack at his house. I know that if anything ever happens, I don't have to worry about him, his mother and my youngest son being cold because that kid makes a fire better and faster than I do :-). Me and his mother are divorced now, so it actually makes me feel better knowing he can do those things...

That's great. Teach him as many different methods as you can. Fire is probably the most important thing when it comes to survival. It doesn't matter if you can hunt, trap and find water if you can't keep warm, cook and sterilize.
