Cool! Thanks for the link. The 40w RV bulbs suck up the juice much more than LED's, but with two batts in parallel they last a couple months before recharging (I only use the cabin on weekends.)

They also have small solar panels for battery systems that keep the batteries charged while your not there. If there is any sun on the roof of course.

Now THAT'S the way to go! I was thinking of a solar powered motion sensing light for the outside also.

That's a nice looking place you got there RL. Me likes it....

Thanks Mark - and if the SHTF it just may become my primary residence... Although living like Ted Kaczinski doesn't really appeal to me...

Gold is pricey but is secure. But, if you have ounce bars or coins of gold and the shtf and you need to do some "shopping" it is very difficult to use gold that way. You can cut small pieces off and barter that way but it is normally not practicle. A better investment for currency use is silver. Silver is currently selling for around $13.50 - $14.00 for a ounce bar that is easier to use as currency. It doesn't really matter what metal or "matter" you have on hand it can be used as currency. But the smaller value bars like in silver are more practicle. Historically silver goes up when gold goes up or any other comodity. In this case it is not an investment into future growth but an investment into future stability.

This is true - and for bartering or SHTF scenarios, silver is probably preferrable to gold for the reasons you mention. However, almost on a daily basis I am hearing projections of $1500 to as high as $7000 an ounce for gold inside a decade. Even at the low end of the spectrum this is outstanding growth given the current interest rates.
