It's weird, but residue and smoke in small

amounts can ruin food, the same as hickory

wood and other flavorings can improve it.

I even dig out firepits at public campsites,

because knuckle-heads who burn plastic

can really ruin the ride, as you're trying

to develop a good bed of cooking coals

the first day.

The woodworkers will often have planer chips. Paraffin can be found in a stores canning section. Teacandles may be a cheaper source of the wax if your are near a discount store.

Best done outdoors on a hotplate. heat mix and put in miniature cupcake liners.

The cop will not mistake them for drugs, but may mistake them for cupcakes.

Dryer lint, toilet paper/gift wrap cardboard tubes cut up and a jar of Vaseline. Nice long burning firestarter.

I save a lot of things, but if I ask my wife to save dryer lint, I think I've crossed the line

I save dryer lint. I also use cotton balls dipped in Vaseline. Put them in a old pill jar or and old camera roll container. No fumes and its water proof.

My paper shredder provides a lot of tinder (Thanks USPS).
Stuff some in a gallon zip-loc bag.

At one time I saved chainsaw chips. Unfortunately I now have an implanted medical device that rules out using a chainsaw.

Whatever you do, don't make them look like donuts. <grin>

I thought about the shredded paper, but with my luck a gust of wind would make it get away from me. Maybe if I mixed them in some wax? I'll have to try that. There's no way it could be mistaken for drugs.

Fritos burn very well. If you are looking to start a fire in wet conditions, keep some road flares in your trunk.
