Default Going off the grid

Why take the radical step of taking yourself totally "off the grid"?
Just modify your lifestyle somewhat. Leave the city (I assume by the binary you're in programming-that's a mobile talent). Find your niche as near nature as you're comfortable with, but retain some steady income! Try pick up some of the local survival talents.
I've lived "on the edge" of the grid all my life. Everyday things we do like sustenance hunting, trapping, mushroom, fiddlehead, shed collecting woodcutting & even gardening could be called survivalist living.
I've designed my own geothermal system ($1700) & biodiesel mfg via solar. I manage to do what I want, when I want.
Who could ask for more?
I'm lazy, what's the binary code, message to the mother ship?

6_5 it looks like WOC took care of the translation.

I hope to work remotely for the same company I work for now during our "transition" phase, but my career is one of the primary reasons for getting out and getting off of the grid. We are about to sign on a large plat of land in northern Maine and there is a town close enough that my wife and I will be able to find decent jobs (less stressful) than the ones we currently have though.

Where did you get the information for your geothermal system?
