Ok, I'm lost. How does health insurance relate. Are we talking about quitting jobs and such?

I betcha the Penobscot Chamber of Commerce offers insurance as a member benefit.

Yes, we are talking about quitting jobs and such.

If you are self sufficient there's need for a job, or at least not a traditional job. But health insurance is a big issue.

Unfortunately , health issues can be a major factor in the pursuit of freedom .
Some are not able to cut them selves free because of such attachments.!

Might be the very issue that makes this endeavor impossible for some and for others , it's time to research the hell out of your personal issues and weigh the possibilities of cutting all ties.!

The hard truth , not everybody can break the shackles that bind us.! Some , through alternative methodologies can find home cures , dieting and other means to control their personal health issues.!

We , myself included wish all to be as informed and as ready as we can be .!
It is up to each individual to research and analyze one's own potential.!

Good luck to all , and do your home work well..!

Trip - yes all in off the grid, no traditional job. It seems unattainable for sure, but I think it is possible.
Will it be easy, nope.
Will it be comfortable at first, nope!
That is the part that excites me most though, I'm tired of the rat race.

I was also contemplating "dropping out" and moving to Maine, income was no problem, but based on medical needs it proved to be not possible. Based on the advent of Obamacare it is now impossible.

Under Obama care a couple will be fined $5,000 dollars if they have no insurance. This is going to impact many peoples freedom.

The Mormons seem to be thriving. They are the proof that socialism works, if you do it as a religion, but all of them are anti-socialist. Go figure.

I think insurance and health care are the biggest obstacles in going off grid? You don't have to have either but modern health care is why the average life expectancy is so much longer than it was 100 years ago.

Actually, I think health care is the second biggest obstacle. The first would just be knowledge. There's a lot that of skills that would have been common just 100 years ago that aren't so common now. Many of those skills have been almost lost.

Yes you will be required to carry Health Insurance under Obama Care. Failure will result in fines. This will include surrendering any tax refunds etc. There are 41,000 new armed IRS agents added to enforce the mandatory health insurance mandate.
