When it comes to ammo....When you think you have enough..Go back to the store and get more. Or not. More for mew then.

Every time I go to Walmart or a LGS, I pick up a box of pistol AND rifle ammo. NEVER can have enough.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, is the barter value of surplus ammo. Now of course you'd keep what you need as much as you need, sell, trade for food, medical items, water. Security measures would be needed for high risk contact with others . But ex. Ammo would be VERY valuable.
And as far as roads being blocked, you cleary need something that will go off road,, I picked up jeep cherokee ZJ not long ago and with a few mods and 31inch MT tires these older rigs are Very capable ( 6-8 cylinders kick ass) and really cheap nowa days, 2500truck+1500 mods you got yourself a capable bug out vehicle. Carry gear and gas, spare, on a roof rack, tons of room for gear in back.

Don't forget to keep adding mags as well. I just ordered four more 20 rounders for my Mini 30. The gubmint will soon be going after mags with a vengeance. I can almost guarantee they'll also go after bulk ammunition purchases and try to curb online ammo sales as well.
In the city of Sacramento, CA where I used to live, picture ID and a thumbprint are required to purchase any ammunition of any quantity including buckshot and slugs. The only exceptions are .22 and lighter shotshells. They have a form and actual round count and specifics must be listed. They photocopy your drivers license, your thumbprint goes on the form and they are stored together.
That may be coming everywhere eventually. The sky is not falling, but there's definitely something in the air.
