Default Is this a SHTF situation

Mains water has been off in the city for 24 days now, water is being escorted to distribution centres by the police, water has been rationed to 8 litres per household per day, local government is responsible for the distribution. Reports are now coming out that political activists for one of the parties has been removing water from the centres to ensure that their supporters have sufficent supply. Central government has turned a blind eye and the police have only hinted about a possible investigation in the future.
This is not hypothetical this is happening in a city in the UK right now, the city is Belfast, the political party is Sinn Fein ( you may remember them as the political wing for a certain terrorist organisation), central government doesn't want to rock the boat and put a joke of a peace agreement in jeopardy.
This is what happens to an population where gun ownership is at an all time low, where politicians think that the people are there to provide them with status, rather than to provide the people with a voice, and where peace must be preserved at all costs even if that cost is the people it was ment to benefit.

It is terribly sad that most of the world has little to no idea what is actually going on in northern Ireland. I remember when I visited in 87', it seemed like we entered a military base. I remember some British troops stopping me and harassing me for running down the street with some friends.

I don't think either side has the peoples interest at heart. Keep your chin up and I wish you the best of luck.

Default Combat indicators

Back in 87, you have to think of the context dog, running kids could be seen as a combat indicator that bad things are about to happen, ESP near a military patrol, at that stage it was still a moderate intensity conflict, I think the terminology was police support operation. If you get a chance ask a few of the guys that were in Najaf in 04/05 during the uprising and they will tell you about how you get real nervious when people start running in the street.

I know a young Irish lady from another forum. She and her family moved to Spain to get out of Ireland about 10 years ago.

It is a civil war that is in truce. I am trying not to take sides in this post but Sinn Fein were not the only terrorists. Take an honest unbiased look at Irelands history and you might get an idea of why there is all the anemosity. I am not Engilsh or Irish so I have no stake in your problems but it is akin to the tribulations of the Indians in this country.

Default Terrorist question

Sinn Fein were not terrorists, they just spoke for them, to look into the far mists of time over who started what would be futile. What the people were promised in the peace treaty was that political parties would nolonger use armed stuggle to further their cause. This hasn't happened, the military presence has been scaled back, the police service has been reduced to a political puppet force that is ineffective. Over Christmas there was still 3 grenade attacks and 4 gun attacks on the homes of ex servicemen and more than 50 this month have been intimidated from their homes. It is not the fear of what they may encounter themselves, but what will happen when a terrorist comes to their home and attacks their family, terrorists and bullets don't differentiate, the reason republican terrorists were highlighted was that they have been responsible for the latest upsurge, just as they were getting into trouble in the polls. The last party to operate this way was the Nazi party, create the problem then tell the people you are the solution to the problem.

Troop, sounds like the local govt has it's head up its ass. When water's being rationed, they can't fix a water main in 24 days and dudes are stealing it? If it isn't SHTF yet it will be. Time to bring in the Army?

It has been said- Water, air, and sex- the three things don't matter- unless you are not getting any.

Part of the reason I live out in the country- We do not have to rely on anyone else for heat, water, power, or food- and it is amazing how much your neighbors improve when they are at least 600 yards away. We get very little harassment from anyone (other than the infrequent missionary) Too many people here own heavy equipment that can dig a deep hole with very little effort. Street thugs that are proud of their cheap .380 or 9mm do not care to cross paths with the guy with a 30-06 and a 12 g in the rack behind him in the pickup.
