I'm keeping mine in a mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnell's porch.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”Samuel Adams

Hybridization is normal and natural IF we're talking different strains of the same plant. If we're talking about fish genes spliced into tomato DNA, then deal me out.

What you really want are heirloom seeds: those plants will produce fruit with seeds that will produce more fruit. What you don't want are seeds that will produce fruit with non-viable seeds.

Food is usually the first consideration, but there are a ton of plants out there with wonderful medicinal value. You may want to be able to grow them, too.
