3-way frigs work by heating. Heating elements on 12 volts(or 120) draw a LOT of power.
On 12 volt they often draw 10 amps continuous plus some have a controller that always is in use (even for the propane!) that draws 1 to 1.5 amp(12 volt).

Yes, and getting that 12 volts DC from the Sun via solar PV makes it virtually free once you have paid for the panels. It is not the most efficient way to cool things off but it can be economical and sustainable, more importantly it is off-grid.
