So, when you plan for the Apocalypse, just how long do you feel like it will last? If you feel like it will be a year before the grocery stores are open then you need a years worth of beans, bullets and allies. If you think it will be ten years before you see the greeter at Wal-Mart the next time, then you need ten times as much. If you feel like civilization as we know it is gone,as in forever kaput, then you need a lifetime of goods and friends stashed back.

I prepare for weather outages, two weeks worth of food and cash. Anything longer than that I will just have to take it from the preppers. It is a good plan and very cost effective. Three hundred million zombies can't be wrong.

Everyone has to start somewhere. I agree that you can never have too much ammo. My plan is to shoot one box buy two. On some website I read of somebody planning a 3 meal a day, 4 person bucket that would last a week. It was a 5 gallon bucket stuffed with everything needed to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner packaged to last.

One thing I thought of, I want to keep an old smart phone, loaded up with tools like a compass, flashlight, etc, in the faraday cage idea, with a solar cell phone charger. It might also serve as the only entertainment being that you can put hundreds of full length cd's, family photos, slideshows, etc. Even though it can't connect to a cell tower in a grid down scenario, you can still load it up with useful tools.

Just an idea.

Beast everyone here has given good advice, remember the 3'S of survival - 3minutes without air- 3 days no water - 3 weeks no food equals DEATH, of coarse this is an average human. Also we need FAT & PROTEIN not either or both , peanut butter fills a fast non heat source food. Plus pick up baby wipes to clean yourselves with & not waste water on hygiene. Mickey

Also raw honey will last forever so long as you keep it covered and air tight . You can find this online or if you have a local market that buys from local bee keepers / honey producers , and you can use this in any food to provide some flavor
