Something else to consider along with the lard, oil, or whatever is a way to grown food. We won't be able to go buy seeds to plant for a garden and you really can't save seeds for very long so a very good alternative is to plant heirloom seeds. They are not genetically engineered like most of what you buy are. When you pick your corn, beans, whatever with heirloom plants you save seeds from the best and sturdiest plants for next year. As long as you save from one year to the next you'll always have seeds to plant. They are also better for you.
