MERS-CoV, another Virus to watch

MERS-CoV, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus is yet another virus to keep an eye on. This is a viral respiratory illness first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012. This month the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 32 cases of the virus so far, including a cluster of 10 health care workers, all of whom worked with an infected patient who died on April 10. Nearly all the cases were located in the Middle East countries of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Jordan. One case was found in Malaysia.
CDC is concerned about MERS-CoV. Most people who have been confirmed to have MERS-CoV infection developed severe acute respiratory illness. They had fever, cough, and shortness of breath. About half of these people died. Also, the virus spreads from person to person and has spread between countries. CDC recognizes the potential for the virus to spread further and cause more cases and clusters globally, including in the United States.
The CDC's take on this:

The first U.S. case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus has been reported in Indiana, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.

i've been following this MERS-CoV thing since the first cases were found in Saudi. i have several doctor and nurse friends who work in Saudi. One nurse says there are more cases that the Saudis have not reported.

There is great potential for this virus to spread widely because of pilgrims visiting Saudi holy sites. Hajj will fall in early October this year.

IMO: The US CDC is downplaying the danger presented by this virus. The virus has killed about one of three victims.

ok, so it's here now. Yes it's seems to be contained, but there were others on the plane and ground.

Will you change your daily behaviors now that it's here?

I'll watch the reports, but no changes for now.

Stay safe Fathead. You might be safer where you are than where I am right now. I'm in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, west Africa. :( No cases of Ebola to date, but we are right next door to Liberia. It is pretty here. I just won't be shaking any hands :D

CNN reports a second case in Florida. The infected person travelled from Saudi Arabia, to London, to Boston, then Atlanta to Orlando. Lots of potential... -Eeeek-
