World war Z, yes it's about zombies but it also looks deeply into the human emotion side of catastrophe and I think it shows how a lot of people will react to a more likely apocalypse scenario

I read the LEFT BEHIND series.....Its a slow slog through all of them but I enjoyed them. If the book of Revelations had been that long I would have skipped it.

I'm halfway into Patriots. Best book I've ever read.
And I just started reading One Second After.

Both of these were recommended by my Dad.

Those are both excellent books.

Coming of the Horseclans by Robert Adams.
Oh yeah, the Horseclans series was great! I've still got most of them in storage.

"One Second After" isn't perfect by any means, but it's pretty down to earth and more realistic than most.

I agree. One of the most ominous things about the book is the foreward by Newt Gingrich. As far as I am concerned, he is one of the smart guys who were in congress and he gives a sobering outline of the threat of EMP along with the nation's lack of any preparedness. Gulp.

Me, too. I think it is an unconventional area of interest, but I guess I ain't alone.

BTW -- an EMP attack scares the bejeebers outta me -- I think it is much more likely than a major nuke exchange or many/most other big SHTF possibilities. Congress took it seriously enough to get a commission to study it then did nothing about the recommendations. Call/write your reps -- it is the only chance we have to get some action in this area.
