.30-06, 20ga and .22lr (shoot just fine in my .22 magnum revolver and singleshot rifle)[/QUOTE]

Yeah the 22 lr's will shoot just fine in a 22 mag if you like split cases and potentially dangerous gas blowing back in your face. That is why revolvers like the Ruger single six have two cylinders, one for 22 short, long and Long rifle and the other for 22 mag.

Default Shooting just fine.

Im not reloading .22 rimfires and dont care if they do split some do most dont depends on the brand used, they all hit the target and extract just fine in both the savage and the taurus both modern arms and both hell for stout, when cleaning I use a bristle brush the chambers and bores clean up fine.
I prefure .22mags if I got em i'll shoot them but I dont let that limit me any.
found that out years back.

I can only shoot one gun at a time. Shame to have to leave guns behind for the bad guys. You could disperse them to trusted friends and neighbors if need be.

The chances of us ending up in a "JERICHO" situation is slim to none at best, even with Obama at the helm. That's not to say we shouldn't be prepared... but "bird on a wire" panic is pointless and expensive.

Just the "FEAR" that Obama was going to reinstate the assult weapon ban caused all kinds of panic. So far all it's done is create a perceptive situation that jacked up prices and created a shortage. And, for what? FEAR.

FEAR also caused this mass shortage of ammo, and it jacked up prices.

A hand-full of people will reap massive profits off of your fear...

I keep atleast one box of ammo for every gun. Not having any would be like having a car with no gas, its nfg

You got that right... no ammo=NFG

I have a lot of ammo, and I reload even more. But I didn't buy any guns or ammo at these ridiculous JACKED UP PRICES...

I 100% agree. Don't you all remember the Clinton years with the AWB? Civilization didn't collapse and we weren't sand bagged into our homes waiting the Clinton army to come take all our stuff. Much the same as now. Think about it, let's say tommorrow Obama says no more guns. As slow as Washington moves and the obvious resistance this topic would generate, do you think it would actually happen? Much less mobilize whoever Obama has in mind to do the actual confiscation? The logistics of it are off the charts. And we all know how smooth government works. Even most democrats realize anti-gun talk kills their re-election bids. With an election coming in 2010 I don't think they want to rock the boat that hard. The only people coming out ahead are people like the a-holes on gun broker selling primers for $75 per thousand, and at the same time feeding into the "fear". Or the guys that are selling $900 AR15's for $1500. At a recent gun show, one person (that's the nicest thing I can say) was selling 380 auto for $50 per box for plain old fmj's, and was overheard saying "better buy 'em now, won't be available once Obama bans 'em". Once the panic buying is done, and manufacturers catch up, guess what? There will be ammo a plenty. Couple of years from now the big box sporting good stores will be having huge sales because their warehouses are over flowing. Just as there are extremists for wanting to ban guns, we also have extremists who are preparing for armagedon. You guys can hang out in your bomb shelters learning how to turn urine into drinking water, I'm going the shooting range and burn up some ammo!

Ok I read all the post and most make sense. To answer the question in the OP, I keep at least 100 rds for all rifles, 500 rds for all pistols and 1000 rnds for shot guns, 1000 rnds minimum for AR. With reloading capabilities for some rounds. My reasoning is, in a real SHTF situation, guns with no ammo are useless, and ammo with no guns are useless. A rifle with ammo is better than gold, even if you only have 100 rnds, for trading purposes.
For later, when people begin to rebuild what the socialists have destroyed, gold and silver coins will be usefull. Just my 2cents.
