You can get these at the various marine boating supplies companies.

They work great as incendiary round also. Not their intended purpose however, of course.

Once you are marooned, a water source is going to be the first thing you need to find, or else you will be dead within a few days.

With pots and pans and fire you can make a 'stil to distill salt water into fresh. It all depends on what washed up on shore with you, or what other trash and flotsam you can find.

With stones and sticks you can make a fire starter. With string like a bootlace you can make one with a bow, which is faster. Ergo you can manufacture such a 'stil, and you better, if there is no freshwater spring nearyby.

Springs usually crop out of the rocks near mountains. They result from underwater aquafers trapping water within the mountain.

Drainage streams are the second best thing, although they depend on continuous rains.

Water gun? That would be sort of like a magic carpet ride. And if you have a magic carpet, then just fly home on it.

Bow and arrow, whether self-made or brought along, would still be my favorite choice. Its not easy catching island rats with your hands.

With a bow and arrows, you can shoot the pig and follow the blood trail.

Then like Robinson Crusoe (loved that book when I was a kid) you can follow the blood trail and use your stone tipped spear to finish him off.

Parachute cord would be invaluable, for making the spear tip as well as the bow.

C3,

If you chose your firearm to attract attention, forget the flare gun. I would suggest the Mosin-Nagant M-1944. At night it could be seen further than any flare, and in the daytime, you could hear one further than you could see a passing ship.

You could also shoot sea-gulls for food, or native ghouls, that objected to your "illegal" immigration status. Shooting the gulls, you might have to be satisfied with the feet only, cause that is about all you could salvage. There would be more left of the Ghouls, that you could Bar-B-Q with the muzzle flash.

There you go, the perfect Gilligan gun.

I think the best answer so far, not discounting the fantasy of unlimited ammo of all kinds, is indeed the 12 gauge together with flares and buckshot.

Normally whenever you are marooned, you will only have whatever is in your pockets though.

For me that would be my knives.

I'm going to follow the crowd on this one and go with a 12ga. due to the lack of cleaning supplies. It doesn't get much more low maintenance than a single shot 12ga. Throw in cleaning supplies and I'm going with my Savage M93!

I suppose it would be my Mossberg 590A1. What a piece of power that is.
