Here's the specs on the EMP bags I ordered:
Description
The 20″X30″ bag is perfect for your laptop(all sizes), gaming systems, radios and extra accessories. This Faraday bag features an outstanding 38-pound puncture resistance. The multiple layer construction provides full protection against ESD, EMI/RFI and tribocharging. Electrical Properties *EMI Shielding (MIL-B-81705-Rev-C): >40 db Between 1 & 10 GHz *Resistivity-Conductive Metal Layer (ASTM D-257): <2 Ohms/sq. in. avg. *Surface Resistivity (both surfaces) (ASTM I-257 @ 12% RH): <10 12 Ohms. sq. in. *Static Decay (FTMS 101C, Method 4046.1 5000 to 0 Volts): <0.05 Seconds *Capacitive Probe Test (High Voltage Discharge) - (EIA-std 541/Appendix E-1 KV): <8 Volts *Charge Generation-nominal (Modified incline plane Avg. nC/sq.in.):Teflon: -0.09 Quartz: +0.10 Physical Properties *Total Thickness: 7.0 mils *Light Transmission (ASTM D-1003-77) <.01% *Tensile Strength (ASTM D882-83 Method A) 735 lbs. *Tear Strength: (D1004-66 - Notched) MD: 5.8 lbs. TD: 7.5 lbs. *Burst Strength (FTMS 101-C Method 2007 1a) >130 psi *Puncture Strength (FTMS 101-C Method A) >38 lbs. *Elongation (ASTM D822-83 Method A)MD: 40% TD: 74% *Heat Seal Strength (ASTM D-1876-72 Vertrod Sealer) >11 lbs./in width MVTR (ASTM F-1249 @ 100°F 100sq. in./24 hrs) <.0006 gms OTR (@ 100% Oxygen 100 sq. in./24 hrs) ASTM Because our Faraday Bag utilizes the most current metalizing technology, its moisture barrier performance exceeds foil laminates for low Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR), particularly after flexing. In other words whatever you place in the bag and seal properly is going to stay dry also! __________________ Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) - a system of government where those least capable of leadership are elected by those least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to succeed or provide for themselves are rewarded with goods and services paid for by wealth confiscated from a diminishing number of people who actually work and produce.

I totally agree with (fortify and defend) You have to have plenty guns and ammo. food, water ways to purify water ect, etc. One of the most important items to have is (night vision). Think about it. When would you most likely leave your bunker? Right. At night. That is when every smart survivor would go out, and so would the scavengers who will try and raid your supplies. I know night vision is expensive but well worth it. |

My wife wouldn't be without her Foodsaver vacuum unit. We buy coffee in large amounts and she vacuum seals it in quart jars and stores it in the back of the cupboard. We rotate it every month as needed.Between the stuff she cans and the stuff she seals and the generator I have to run the freezers we should be OK on the food front for several months. All I need now is a squad to help defend the perimeter and forage if needed.
The events of the last few days , all over the world, makes one wonder just how long it will be before it gets here. Last edited by oldshooter; 08-10-2011 at 06:17 PM.Reason: spelling |

My understanding is that EMP only is a problem if your electronics are powered....? I thought that was the deal anyway... the power attracts the magnetic field... the magnetic field jumps the voltage in the device breaking it. Same thing happens to transformers. __________________ Libertarian Party Member

Nope. The electromagnetic pulse washes over all circuitry whether it's powered on or not and if the pulse is strong enough it can fry small circuitry such as that found in integrated circuits. __________________ When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing; when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors; when you see that men get rich more easily by graft than by work, and your laws no longer protect you against them but protect them against you...you may know that your society is doomed. ~Ayn Rand |

Wipes out firmware too, I believe. Anything having a computer used to start it up will be useless. __________________ I love Life - I try to learn something new everyday! I am thankful for a brain that still functions, a wife who still loves me and my gun collection to defend me! |

We are due for a solar max., just when is the question. The last one I posted on was close to the X-class flare as reported by Space Weather site; but, the flare lost energy and was downgraded to C-class flare.
SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids
Classification of X-Ray Solar Flares:
Definition: A solar flare is an explosion on the Sun that happens when energy stored in twisted magnetic fields (usually above sunspots) is suddenly released. Flares produce a burst of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to x-rays and gamma-rays.
Scientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms:
X-Class Flares:
-are big
-they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms
M-Class Flares:
-are medium-sized
-they can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth's polar regions.
-minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare.
C-Class Flares:
-are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth |
