The original list looks great , I'd probably want to add safety pins. The second bag idea is great as long as its size doesn't get out of hand- no bigger than a range bag Instead of purchasing a second bag perhaps you would consider a banana box with an extra cardboard cut for the hole on each side. Put the things you might want and as long as the jeep remains viable---. You may get home with more than you expected-, if it doesn't make it, it is stuff you'd have lost anyhow. Next time you are home ask to borrow a firearm, my eldest has borrowed three.

If you have a home place to get to why not have a bunch built up there. Less to carry means moving faster but you still get all the stuff.

Away from home, I too have thought of river crossings as "choke points". Please don't discard your maps, many will point to alternative crossing points (i.e. rr bridges).
