Barely, it was still in the news when I was a kid. But of course the lamestream beats a dead horse for years. It's in the history books too, wasn't the kool-aid orange?

As dangerous as food dyes can be according to the media, I'm pretty sure it was the cyanide.

Sounds like a good solid theory to me...

I just said that because for some reason everyone finds the color relevant, don't ask me why.

I am familiar with MN, all of wife's family is from there so we visit there at least once a year. Ice fishing and playing with the snow mobile is fun, but I can see where that much snow and cold can get old!
what part? Mpls/StPaul?

SHTF gets really rough when you are a senior citizen. There is not much chance of bugging out. A lot of us will die quickly from illness and lack of medication. People will think you are an easy target so you will be under attack. The brazen attackers will score against the undefended but will die if they hit someone prepared. You can not defend against the smarter ones forever. The other factor is how do you turn away a young starving family? If I knew in advance and could get the kids and their families together, we would have a chance. I know several other heavily armed seniors in good shape and we will pull together. Getting supplies into our fairly remote town will also be a problem. The markets will be stripped very quickly then the scavengers will start to prey on the weakest. To them it will be the seniors first.
The one large group that is best able to survive is the Mormons. They have been stockpiling and preparing for a disaster for a long time. They have the resources and necessary organization to make it in the coming calamity.

But, they lack defensive weapons.
