I know you qouted trip but I also live close to the coldwater, (5 miles). The coldwater runs muddy 365 days a year. The bottoms ain't nothin nice. For a river that is only about 20' across in most places it drains a huge area. Thus the bottoms. They are home to all manner of critters, cottonmouths, copperheads,
snapping turtles some say there are aligators now. Hands down the most dangerous indigenous critter that inhabit the bottoms is the dreaded, North Mississippi Redneck. The ones that inhabit Marshal County part of the bottoms are particularly nasty.

You better just come over to the house. I'll show you the bottons from the bridge, you can decide from there.

Downsouth, that's why no one will come looking. And I'll say this, for as nasty as that water looks, it's surprisingly clean. I've taken samples to the bio lab and compared them to samples of tap water from hernando, the town of coldwater, senatobia, southaven, olive branch, and batesville.

Guess which was the cleanest, disregarding the silt? I found no micro critters at all in several slides and chemical tests of the bottom water. The others looked like a freaking zoo.

Never really considered the bottoms for a bugout place. Somebody could be looking at you at a few hundred yards. Might take them a mile or two of walking to get to you if they did'nt want to get wet. If your in a good spot Most times of year there is alot standing water outside of the banks.hmmm

I grew up at hernando point, I know the bottoms like the back of my hand. Arguably better than almost anyone in the area, except for one other man I know. A man could disappear in there and start a jonestown type camp, and no one would know it.
