does anyone know if the sugar treatment from shooter has any grounds? we were taught pretty well as far as medical treatment goes in the corps. although it all revolved around real medical equipment and supplies. anybody have any outside the box treatments for gunshots and outher trauma? __________________ "the tree of liberty has to be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants...."

i'm not really sure, they didn't go into detail about it. they said it has something to do with osmotic (spelling?) pressure. i'm not sure what that is. they treatment is supposedly old school medicine though. __________________ "the tree of liberty has to be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants...."

Whiskey, honey, lemon juice a little boiling water and a cinnamon stick.
It may not fix a gunshot wound but it can't hurt.
Bacteria have enough food in a trauma like that, they don't need a butt load of sugar dumped into an open wound to help speed the infection along. |

Please note the man said HONEY, not sugar. Sugar has a minor osmotic effect on some bacteria, but as it gets diluted by body fluids, that drops off rapidly. When honey is diluted, its effectiveness as an antibiotic increases. This is due to an enzyme present in honey that produces- are you ready for this? Hydrogen peroxide. MUCH weaker than the stuff you buy in the store that WILL damage tissues.
Here is some reading for you. Bottom line- with all the drug resistant bugs out there, they are re-examining the use of honey. Effectiveness varies from one variety to another, but all have some effect. If you are in a situation where customary medical help is in short supply, you might remember this.

Simply put, it is diffusion of water across a semipermeable membrane. __________________ .

When I was a combat lifesaver I carried tampons after being advised by a medic. Tampons are good to stuff in the hole to stop the bleeding.
*I can't believe I just typed that*
Seriously though. |
