hikeing and camping in the white mountions??
Im looking to take a long weekend in the spring and go camping in the white mountions of N.H. my questions is should i bring a rifle for saftey and predator pretection? I live in ct so idk what i would have to do to transpo a weapon up there? I own rilfes in 30-3,0 30-06, 7.62x54r, 12ga, .223? Whats the best choice if any?

A friend of mine said he had a few run ins with black bears one was a little to curious.

I live in the sticks in Maine...same fauna as N.H.
I carry a .45. They SAY (oh, they swear up and down) that there's no mountain lions... but I've seen cat paw tracks the size of my hand, in the snow.
We also have black bears in my yard. I never go in the woods without my .45. Never had to use it, and you'll 99.999999% be fine, but why chance it.
I carry a 12 ga during the spring/summer, when the bears are out getting all the fruit they can.
As for the laws, I dunno. I thought NH was pretty cool with guns...
Best look online at state laws.

Shotgun might be the easiest to transport legally and a good predator gun but you best check the laws in whatever states you will be in.

My only worry about a shotgun, is being accused of illegal hunting...

All very good points. This week im going to call the N.H. state police and find out what i can do if i even can. I also intend on call the other states i will be passing thru to stay with in there laws also. My grandpa said i should get 195gr 30-30 rounds for my marlin. He said he was able to take down a brown bear with one shot.
