I think the question posed by TS have been expertly answered, so I don't have much to offer on that front, but when I saw the question I thought of a video that was relevant and very funny.

For enjoyment purposes only: I give you

Default Hand to hand

I have been a fan of Gru Spetsnaz for a while now. The problem That I have though, is when it comes time to use these skills I usually revert to the basics and the most effective techniques. Nothing fancy like Bruce Lee or anything. In terms of weapons I have found that I have a strange attraction to my K pot or my E tool. Also if you have a firearm such as a rifle without ammo, you can still give butt strikes and barrel pokes which hurt alot, trust me.

Krav maga is some of the best self defence tactics known today. I watched a 5' tall pregnant lady whop ass on 6'+ men and women. All of them were black belts in Tae Kwon Do.

Pioneer461 is right. Handguns were invented to offset melee and hand-to-hand fighting. If I am in a fight, I expect to win it not fight fair. Like they say, "Never get into a fight with old men because they'll shoot you." and, "An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotous regularity." Works for me.
