You are a real help here. The guy said he doesn't have much money. I was illustrating (making a point, just so you understand) that SHTF can take be many things and how to get started on putting food aside for rough times. Jeesh!

And I'm not prepping for the end of the world because when that happends I will be called up to be with my maker, praise God. I just want a little extra supplys in case we turn into greece. From the look of things we are heading down that road.

So my question is how do you prep, one with little to no extra cash, two when you can't really get your spouse on board. Space isn't an issue as I live on 9.5 acres. I have started acquiring guns. Working on getting a shot gun and a rifle. But my main worry is food. Its my wife and I and two kids. So just rambling now but any advice is helpful. Thanks guys.

you do it a little bit at a time. Are you canning food? Are you buying bulk product on sale and with coupons? Are you building up your ammo stores?
I'll give you an example, my wife shops to find the best price on 36 package of TP. One pay period, she may need to buy one, so she buys two, and the extra one gets set aside. Next time one package gets emptied, she'll buy two again. Suddenly, 72 rolls in storage, and 36 in use. Same thing with drinking water. 2.5 gallon container cost's an extra $3 or so per monthly shopping trip, and a year later, you have a few weeks of drinking water.
Two garden seasons ago, we grew a bunch of Habaneros. We canned about 5 years supply worth, so don't need to grow any more of those for awhile
Ammo, going shooting, save your brass (big mistake on my part), because you may eventually start reloading. And even when you buy ammo, buy in bulk, 500 rounds is not a whole lot more cost than 250 rounds, 50 at a time.

Trying to stay well hid is my plan if need be. I think real fortification is next to impossible. But that is JMWAG.

I live in a walkup complex so the fortress is going to be the whole community, I doubt that many of the people living in this complex realize that but seems like a logical approach when the SHTF.
Me, I quietly stock up on ammo and gear I deem necessary, so if SHTF day comes I'll be somehow prepared for the well being of my family.
If SHTF day comes, then I believe the rest of the community will sit down and discuss the matter, those best prepared will lead the group.........

The way i see it is i prep so i can be ready for shtf, anyone who doesnt wont be supported by me when it happens because they were too lazy or think preppers are nuts. Thats another good reason why i dont live in town or in a city, they are death traps in shtf scenarios.

Ray_Ray,
For me prepping and saving money go hand in hand. My goal for next year is not to buy any meat or vegetables. I plan on putting up enough from the garden and hunting. I've been building up every year to reach this point. And not buying any meat or vegetables will be a big savings.

I hope by saving money you mean investing in silver.

I think lead is going to be way more valuable than silver?
