Well, that may be true, but I'm sure it's not for the hoity toity elite officials. Most likely it's military and disaster preparedness concern that is making the government buy more non perishables.

You'll know something's up if toilet paper starts disappearing. When the government says use only one square and poke a hole in it, then trouble's a brewin'....

Everyone should stockpile food. I do. Why not? You can rotate through your cans to keep fresh stock but it makes sense.

I try to keep a small stock of water jugs, juices, canned proteins, and dried rice/beans to keep us going. It's hard to keep supplies at a constant level, and not eat through too much or let things sit too long and go bad.
