Honest answer...because I'd never fired a shotgun before, and I was hoping to get something my wife would shoot as well. From the reading I did on turjey hunting boards and forums, 20ga is plenty for turkey (the 16lb bird I harvested this spring can attest to that
), and so it was plenty for me.
I did finally get the wife out to shoot the shotgun, and she hates it with a capital H, so that reason was blown out of the water.
I've thought about trading in the 20 towards a 12, but just can't justify it right now, since I'd be taking a loss on the 20 when it's performing its primary purpose (turkey hunting) just fine. Primary for home defense goes to our handguns.
