if you can get them, the military ammo cans are some of the best there is. anything that will keep them from getting wet should work fine though. many people like the military ammo cans because they also have handles that make them easily portable.

I need more ammo cans too. I like that they stack well. You can stack them as high as you want without worry, except that they might fall over in an earthquake. I also need some of those heavy duty shelving units like they have in Home Depot. Another storage idea is those old IBM card file cabinets, they are made to handle a lot of weight, but you still have to be careful not to overload them. I have a couple of those and they work really well, especially for relatively light ammo like .223/5.56.

I use surplus, used filing cabinets. The OLD kind that had GOOD roller bearing for the drawers. Most I paid was $20 for one. The 5 drawer cabinets. Up to 5 of them now.
Long term storage DOES go into a metal GI ammo can. In the cabinet.

The ones I have are military surplus. Used to be at the Mare Island Navy base before it was shut down. Got a lot of great stuff from there!

I have way to many calibers to stock 1000 rounds for each. I have about 1000 45acp, 1500 9mm, 500 40 S&W. I have about 200 of each of the others. I have about 50-100 rounds for each rifle except SKS and AR. A have about 250 of each of those. I also have a ton of components. Probably about 4000 primers, plenty of powder and 150 lbs of lead. I could shoot for years without running out.

I don't know what "ballistic tipped" means but if you have a .223 and only keep 20 rounds on hand, well, I'd say that's the defeciency in your little arsenal. When you shop, buy two, keep one...
