Love it!
These are my goals. I'm not quite there yet, but working on it...
10,000 .22lr
5,000 .223/5.56x45mm (at least 12 magazines)
1,000 .30-30 (and any other hunting rifle caliber I may get in the future)
1,000 12ga (mix of 00-Buck, 0-Buck, #1-Buck, 7-8 Birdshot, Slugs)
1,500 each .45acp and 9mm (1000 FMJ, 500 JHP)
500 for each secondary caliber (.380, .38spl)
Those are my goals. What are yours?

"Enough ammo" is always defined as one more magazine than you have.
Got a bunch, building it up. 1000 rounds per caliber is a bare-bones desperate goofy small amount. Just MHO.

I'm not so sure. Some years ago, in his earlier days, a young politician (a career he entered immediately upon leaving college) proposed anybody with 200 or more primers, loaded in ammo or not, should be registered as an arsenal and have to buy a new Federal license.
His name was Charles "Chuck" Schumer, #3 Democrat today.

Anyone with less than 200 primers needs to get a lot more primers.
This is a good thread. It reminded me that I really need to stock up on some 12ga shells, and primers, and powder, oh and lead.

He doesn't shoot much. 1000 per gun doesn't sound like much to me.

1K per caliber is a good start. Maybe next goal would be 1K per firearm. This is in addition to having reloading equipment and components for each caliber you own.
It is also important to find the ammunition that each gun likes.

5000 rounds of each for defensive purposes, and 1000 rounds of each for secondary rifles, if you can afford it. .22 is the cheapest and easiest....boxes of 500 plus for $20.00.
even if you don't own some calibers, if you find or see some on sale (most common calibers), and you have any extra $$$, buy some of that. it would be a HELLAVA good bartering item......especially to someone that has a 9mm and is out, or low, and you stocked up on a sale of said ammo. just my .02.
