Myself, living here in California's Central San Joaquin Valley, I'm only about 20 minutes from the Sierra foothills and about an hour and a half from one of the most remote areas I have ever visited. It's located in the Dinkey Lakes region of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Check it out on google earth just northeast of Fresno.

Being born in Riverside, I did alot of deer hunting in that area when I was in my teens. Great place to get lost in with plenty of game and water. As I remember, there were some fine lakes and streams that had some nice looking trout. You could hide an army in those mountians.

My homestead. I would have no reason to leave.
