Times are tough. I scrape by. But the Lord has never let me go hungry. I have a roof over my head and a job, I have a wife that loves me and the glory of Heaven to look forward to. I am poor by American worldly standards, I am doing ok by overall worldly standards, and I am wealthy through Christ, love, family and friends. Some may think I am poor but even though I may not have many material positions I am in wealthy in the things that really count.

I know that Americans are hurting. I make less now than I did eight years ago. I have more bills now than I did eight years ago. I pay more taxes than I use too. I think these worldly standards go in ups and downs. We are just in a downward angle right now and hopefully start climbing soon. Just a ton of changes in many places need to be made, and it may take a while for that to happen.

Just keep on keeping on and try your best and take refuge in Christ and spend time with your loved ones. These are the things that help a man sleep well at night. Keep the faith.

I just hate to read these stories of working Americans who are now victims. I grew up in an America where if you worked and saved you progressed in life. The "New Normal" only keeps everyone from achieving their hopes and dreams.

Well, yassee, I haven't bought any more ammo since this all started. Matter of fact I have sold some. But I still want more and will buy it when it is available at a fair price.

My lifestyle has been on the slow slide downward, not living poorly but certainly closer to the bottom income brackets than the upper ones. It strangely coincided with the erection of BHO. Wife became unemployed just after his coronation and its been a struggle to keep any forward mobility since that day. Prices Up, Taxes Up, Fees Up and purchase power down, Income Down, and most economic indicators are either flat or negative.

Things are pretty shaky, hopefully they will change for the better soon but Im not holding my breath!

Hell my girl works 30+ hours a week (can't even get 40) and She can barely afford to pay less than half the bills and She has no car. Took her 6 months to find the job. I expect within the next two months my car will die. Then She will be paying to get to work and it will almost not even be worth it. The only kids I see driving Nice cars either clearly got it from daddy or they are all thugged out and driving a new BMW, wonder how they managed that. It's like this state is set up to screw the good kids. If you're an illegal immigrant you get free food, free rent, free phone. If you're a drug addict you get the same and can even go to school for free.
Who's paying for it? My girl who works and lives well below the poverty level.

j n f, you both may be correct. It appears you are referring to a theoretical definition of socialism.

'stalker is referring to reality, H. Chavez, the dudes dictating life in Korea, lacked/lack for nothing, The folks living under their socialist leaders, not so much.

The reality is Socialism is for the people, er sheeple, not the Socialists.

Ha-RUMPH to that one... Almost every other resource piggy-backs on the cost of fuel.... and the big fuel companies are posting (on average) $13 billion (with a big capitol B) in profits per quarter !!!... and getting huge tax breaks to boot from the Fed... Oh, they hold hearings about it (.. wasting more of our taxpayer $$$).. and in the end do nothing... and now with more unrest in Egypt there is yet another excuse for pump prices to rise!!... so get ready and bend over!!

THAT... coupled with the trade deficits to/with other countries that do not honor ANY agreement or treaty we have WITH them governing said trade.... no wonder we're in this mess. When even the educated and working are struggling... it's time to re-evaluate how business is done.

The only thing that could save us as a society is preserving (and doing what's best) for the middle class (AKA the backbone of this country) and force our government to STOP looking at them as their expendable cash cows.... and a flat tax (IMHO) would be a good start.

Okay.. my tirade is over. Please discuss...
