I looked at the types of ammo that are plentiful, then bought a rifle that could use those.
Now I'm hooked on Mosin Nagants.
Got a metric **** load of ammo for it too...for cheap

They're rationing at Walmart 2 box limit, if they get it in. sportsman's warehouse is getting ammo, rather slim than none. They have a 3 box limit per brand. I did get 6 boxes of 5.56 and no .223, 1 was able to get 220 gr 30-06 (The shoulder not going to like this) and a box .22LR Tactical 40 gr 375 round box. Forget for 9mm and 40 caliber.
They did have 44 mag and .45 ACP ammo. i know folks are getting other ammo and trading.
I was at infowars and they had picks of the Austin, Texas Gun Show outside:

The line speaks for itself:

Well because of their hindsight the guys that failed to build a stockpile will pay dearly to do so now and into the future. I built my stockpile over many years buying several boxes each week and now have at least a thousand rounds of target ammo per gun plus at least 500 rnds of JHP for each SD handgun.

I suggest watching all three Terminator movies and follow that up with the original Red Dawn. That might give us a clue just how much ammo we will be needing. Lol
The gov just ordered 1.4 billion rounds for domestic use. Mind telling me how the TSA is going to burn through 1.4 billion rounds of ammo? The answer may be coming to a "Theratre near you"

I imagine that you are right. I don't see the ammo prices going down anytime soon. I get around to atleast 5 different gun shops and a half dozen Wal-Marts regularly. I hear the same thing at most of them. The raised prices will become the new normal even after the ammo supply begins to catch back up. People will get conditioned to paying these prices and will be relieved to find a,mo in stock in several months and will continue to pay.
I have thousands of rounds in stock for all of my guns but I didn't buy as much HP as I should have. Most of mine is in target loads. Guess I'll have to look into some for the reloader.

We go to the Walmart near us a couple times a week for general shopping and always check for ammo. The selection is low but I am usually able to get my 3 box limit of 9mm, 45 acp, and 40 sw. Usually wwb, federal, or Tula. It has been cold and wet out and haven't been shooting much so my stockpile has grown. I bought 2 of the 4 boxes of Tula 40 and a box of federal 45 acp today. They had several more boxes of the 45. I consider myself lucky.

I like to think that I'm prepared for a SHTF scenario. (holy crap, does that make me one of the preppers that I've been making fun of?)
If there is some sort of "modern world crisis/natrual disaster and there's no food in the grocery stores, or banks don't have your money, etc. then I have enough ammo to hunt animals to feed my family with, as well as provide defense if someone tries to take what we have
If there is a new revolution in this country and the people actually do call to arms and over throw our corrupt politicians, I have enough ammo for a few skirmishes, but hopefully if that ever happens, I'll be able to scrounge up ammo as needed.
however, I am an optimist....I like to think that neither of those situations would ever happen, and that I'll never actually NEED ammo for either of those situations.

I've been buying what is available. I have found lots of 44mag. Not a round I normally stockpile but what the heck.
