If my family had to bug out, this is what we would grab. I'd carry my Glock 19 and Rem 1100 12ga. Son #1 would have his M+P 9mm and the scoped Rem bolt action 22lr rifle. I'd give Son #2 my Marlin lever action 30-30 and my 22lr Colt Targetsman for a sidearm. Most of the ammo is fairly lightweight, interchangeable in several of the firearms and our choice of weapons should cover most situations. |

For me it comes down to ammo. So there are 3 (or 5) weapons to have:
9mm Gun
12 Gauge Shotgun
.22LR, .223, or 30-06 Rifle
I figure these are the most popular calibers and you will need the ammo that you can find in abundance. You can have the best gun in the world but when ammo runs out you are SOL! |

I totally agree that caliber is at least as important as which platform you choose. However, Magnum27, you said ".22LR, .223, or 30-06." I really think those should all be represented. At least .22lr and .223...and then add into the mix some 30-caliber round: 7.62x39, x51, .30-30, .308, .30-'06.
Thus at least 5 firearms. And then there's this: what if you only have 1 9mm and it breaks? What about all of that 9mm ammo you have?
I think 2 firearms in each of 5 calibers OR have a bunch of extra parts for the firearms you only have one of. __________________ .45 acp, 9mm, .38 spl +p, .380 acp, .22 long rifle

thats a **** load of weapons for a SHTF. but it is somehow a very good idea. although i can not stand a 9mm for any god given reason, i should have just one because of the copious amount of the parabellum. as for my rifle ill always lean on the 7.62x39. i know every gun shop has more .223 or 5.56 but everyone owns more 7.62 as a collective. and thats not just cause im an AK lover, im more partial to the .308. i just have to make myself buy a 9mm weapon. well, ive been looking for an excuse to get that CZ Phantom. __________________ <Insert overused badass Latin phrase about war, or something>

How so? If you have to travel its a lot of weapons but if you are digging in its not. Best have at least one gun that shoots any given common round that you might find a stash of. Personally I still need a couple. |

Easy lova, lova, he didn't say wife, or even someone he cared about. He simply said fat chick. Personally I would fight to the death for my family. But still thought that s**t was hilarious!!!!!!! |

I think my trusty AR15, my Remy 1100 12ga, and a .45 on my side should do pretty well. :-) __________________ Jeff Cooper
