can foot snare cattle, hogs, sheep.

to a drag log, then a blind man can follow the mess that the log makes. finish the critter off with spear or big stone lashed to a long, green limb. Why make noise or waste a rd of ammo, right? You need 3/16" OD aircraft cable, and must know how to make a "one way" slip device, out of a pc of 1" angle iron, about 1/8" thick. Go to your local library, sit down at reference computer, and look under "subjects" in the INTERLIBRARY BOOK LOAN system, or BOOKS IN PRINT. Ragnar Benson's book on SURVIVAL POACHING is an excellent book, and you can read it for free. search under "trapping', survival", camping, backpacking, hunting, combat shooting, martial arts, military science.

if shtf, the legal owner of the critter is probably dead, or fled, no way to prove that the guy CLAIMING the critter is telling the truth. Dog packs, people and lack of feed/water is going to kill all the livestock, anyway. 1-2 of them might as well go to somebody who's got some empty metal drums buried, to protect the meat, and who has some salt and knows how to make brine, dip the strips of meat in, it has bug netting to keep the flies off it while it cures. Sending up smoke is a stupid move if enemies are about and they WILL be, if shtf.
