Primarily with my camp trailer, and family. I'm also set up to use my pickup with a shell and carpeted bed kit when out with the guys.

When I was single, seven of use would rent a house boat for a week on Lake Havasu or Lake POWEL every year Boat around partying fishing swimming and drinking massive amounts of alcohol, and gorging on cow flesh.

The swags we use are made of truck tarp canvas which is a heavy duty canvas that doesn't leak water so if it rains you can basically stay rolled up in it and remain dry and it has zippers on 1 side so it's basically a giant sleeping bag made of canvas and in it is a foam mattress and in that we have either a sleeping bag or a doona and blankets so a good nights sleep is always guaranteed.

These are very popular here in Australia especially with those of us who go away overnight chasing pigs or fishing and even if you put a ground sheet underneath the swag and then put the swag on top of that and then fold the rest of the ground sheet over the swag especially good during Winter as it keeps the frost off the swag..

Another method is to get a foldaway bed frame and use that under the swag.

We always eat well as a good night's sleep and good tucker makes it easy to get through the day especially hunting as you might not get back to camp till mid afternoon.

I got spoiled for camping up on the Moggollon Rim in AZ. No humidity. No bugs. Big pine timber. Impressive wildlife. Gorgeous views. Typically, my friends would bring the kitchen equipment, and I would just throw a mat in the back of my truck. Sometimes I would put a cot out by the fire and fall asleep under the stars. It's sounds cliche, but those were the days.

Camping anywhere in the Midwest with the humidity and mosquitoes is just not worth it.

Small addition to the mess kit when the wife joins you.

ScottA is spot on about the Rim Country..

For every Arizonan (or visitor) you need to schedule a trip to Havasupai Falls its well worth the trek.. Google image it, if your not familiar

Years ago I went camping with a girlfriend up in the Rim country. Absolutely gorgeous.

Camping is a sport that should only be attempted by large fur-bearing animals.

I don't think that works out so well in the Mojave.
