of course there are.

but in all seriousness,to answer your question. try going to the mountains and camping out for say, two months, surviving on nothing but what you carried in and the environment, in the worst part of the year. then imagine having to live like that for an unspecified length of time, say a few years.

should give you an approximation of whether it's a good idea to bug out in the mountains or stay put.

All of the negative things mentioned by most sound about right to me, but the problem is that if things get bad enough that you have to bug out there aren't going to be many good choices. Heading to the mountains isn't a great plan but it is still better than no plan if you had to bug out. Like I mentioned earlier it is one of my plans, but I also doubt I would last very long. But low odds are better than no odds!

Don't get discouraged by the negative comments. Figure out how you're going to overcome the problems mentioned. As axxe55 pointed out surviving in the woods with nothing would be bad, but that still might be better than the alternatives available at the time? Figure out how you would survive without nothing and then figure out what alternatives there could be.

TLuker, has it right. It was good for everyone to say the negatives. But like TLuker says when you get to the mountains you might just find all of us there and in the same boat as you.

You stay near to where the resources are...where you can buy, barter, trade or steal the things you need. Booze, drugs, gas, pain meds, bullets, antibiotics, food, cigarettes, water, guns and women are going to be high-value commodities. You ain't gonna find a lot of that sh*t in the mountains.
