Bow and arrows

Ok so iv never done archery( shot a few arrows though) and Christmas is coming up I was gonna get a ruger mark 1 22lr handgun but go to thinking I have a 22lr rifle already and if shtf would I need a silent way to survive? Which would be better a good recurve now or a 22lr ruger

I would get a recurve if you already have a .22lr. Get that joker threaded and get a suppressor. You have enhanced accuracy and a silent tool. But, you can't really reload for it.

But, a recurve bow...
You can make your own arrows and string in a pinch. Retrieve said arrows. Still silent. PLUS, you also have recreation there.

I own both. Dont use the bow. Can't remember ever shooting it. Now the Ruger...that would be indispensable. You could hunt for a month with the ammo in your front pocket!

Yeah that's what I was thinking and if shtf I'm not buying a suppression I have other ways to silence it ;) and with 22lr you need all the power you can get

That's true but as stated with arrows you can always make more

And you can take down bigger game. Granted, you can take down a deer with a head shot, but, would you wanna if you didn't have to?

Yeah I'm thinking recurve now a compound is kinda slow to draw back

I havent shot a recurve, but a compound bow is accurate when properly adjusted for the shooter

Yeah hmm decision decisions

I would get the bow. I have a .22 and a compound bow. I enjoy shooting the bow. I can shoot indoors, shoot in the back yard and no one can hear me. We have a separate archery season for deer which is a month before rifle season, and I can hunt restricted areas.
You also have more luck seeking landowner permission to hunt their land if you tell them you're only using a bow.

Plus it's a good hobby to get into! There's plenty of days I enjoy archery more than shooting guns...

There's something primal in it, like reconnecting to a lot of ancestors.
