Ok I gave this alot if thought and I very badly need a BOB and I was wondering what I would need to take,use, have, and well it would really hit home if any thing happened to anyone in my family weather they are prepared or not I want to be, my sister is the only person left in my life and family I have very few close friends but thats about it, the wife died 2 years back of a heart attack ;(. And I really want a good soild BOB. To take care of a small group and I'm going to find a good solid weapon (prolly leaver action hey they have been here this long something has to work on em) and every time I go to a gun store pick up a box or two of ammo. But I'm really fearing for my self and family so here are the weapons I own what do u think would be the best choice

Winchester 30/30 ranger (love it)
2 marlin 30/30 (idk model) both scoped

That is a nice collection you have there

My humble advise would be use what you feel most comfortable with and are best at. For BOB reliability is a must, keep in mind though any firearm can fail, and any firearm if maintained will last along time. Maybe you can take a catagory of weapons i.e. pistol or rifle or whatever, and head to the range with a few from that days catagory, see how you feel and shoot with each one, keep track of your shooting and handling maybe make a 1-10 scale for each gun, then you can start to choose based on the knowledge you gain from the range time.

For really good survival needs you will probably need 3 specific firearms.

1. A good medium caliber rifle for personal protection and hunting wild medium sized game. Think of a scoped AK in 7.62 X 39 caliber. The scope should be like a simple tactical scope or 4 to 6 power magnification scope for enhanced shooting accuracy.

2. A decent pistol or revolver of some sort to wear on your person on your property. Something along the lines of a .38 or .357 caliber revolver or a 9 mm pistol or bigger. My favorite is a Glock 17 in 9 mm because of the capacity of rounds they let you carry.

3. You might also need a shotgun of some sort so you can use it for personal protection and for hunting small game like rabbits, squirrels and birds. You will need slug rounds, trap loads, buckshot loads and/or small game loads.

And also think about carrying a good sheath knife, possibly a hatchet of some sort and a multi-tool as well. That combination of gear should do you well as it covers most of your shooting needs, tactical and hunting, and for other events as well.

A good .22 rifle is a must for me. I'd much rather use it for small game than a shotgun. A brick of .22 doesn't weight much more than a box of 12 gauge shells, but puts a LOT more meat on the table.

What about other items for your BOB? Do you have one or more bug out locations?
