shot placement is the answer in a real world environment this is the key a 22 can kill any thing on land with proper placement of the bullet and the ammo is light and the weapons r light !!!
so my survival gun is any of the 22's I own , and am familiar with this gives me room 2 carry mass amounts of ammo in my pocket and still have room for all the other nesesities needed 4 survival cuz remember survival is not all guns it is about being flexible in your environment and your skill as a survivalist!!

So, you're going to let a butt load of bad guys get within .22 LR head shot range? If they're carrying any sort of gov't. issued long gun, that puts you in a really bad place.

the report of a 22 is harder to here than that of gov't. issued long gun and with training a 500 to 1000 yard shot is possible with a 22!
And if a well trained force were to come along and try 2 take what i have
(now comes the thinking) i know that i am out matched they will get what they want regardless of me or you for that matter
so u simply get what u can (1000 RNDS in my pocket ) and high tail it to the hills taking well placed shots to fewer there numbers (if given the opportunity) and use your skill in camo to survive the attack still having enough ammo to feed your self and protect your self from them bad dudes

Depending on the situation.

If it was a SHTF type scenario I would want a common caliber like a .22 or 223 maybe even a 30-30. Something that would be common on the street if I needed to acquire ammo at a later date.

If we're still talking about the best survival rifle, I would say a Kel Tec SU 16. It folds in half to fit in the Camelbak. It shoots .223. Good for hunting animals and humans. I had good experiences with mine. It's accurate and relible.

i would have to choose the SA m14 m1a scout squad. enuf power to take down anyone and anything. close range, long range it will do the job. but ammo is kinda heavy. wouldnt be able to carry very much.
